BRIEF HISTORY OF "ROMEO & JULIETA":
The cigar brand "Romeo & Julieta" was thrown to the market in 1876 by Inocencio Alvarez and Jose Garcia, proprietors of a factory located in 87 San Rafael Street.
In 1903 the factory was acquired by the Asturian Mr. Jose Rodriguez Fernandez (Don Pepin) who was able to set his brand among the most known of the world.
Two years later he inaugurated for his factory a modern building in the street Belascoain. It had more than a thousand workers. Don Pepin died in 1954, and his nephew Hipolito Rodriguez became the proprietor of the “Romeo and Julieta”. In 1961 the factory was nationalized by the Cuban state.

BREVE HISTORIA DE LA FÁBRICA ROMEO Y JULIETA:
La marca Romeo y Julieta fue lanzada al mercado en 1876 por Inocencio Alvarez y José García, propietarios de una tabaquería situada en Calle San Rafael 87.
En 1903 la fábrica fue adquirida por el asturiano José Rodríguez Fernández (Don Pepín), quien logró colocar la marca entre las más conocidas mundialmente. Dos años después inauguró para su fábrica un moderno edificio en la calle Belascoaín, con más de mil trabajadores.
Al morir Don Pepín quedó como propietario su sobrino, Hipólito Rodríguez. En 1961 la fábrica fue nacionalizada por el estado cubano.
